Butterfly Ambassadorettes, the Ladies Auxiliary started with a small group of women who wanted to serve Veterans and has grown nearly every year since its beginning. There is one one way to ass members. ASK SOMEONE TO JOIN. once they join ASK THEM PARTICIPATE.

There are several way to ask someone to join, each person will have a different approach depending on their audience. Each Auxiliary should have a membership plan, whether it is all members doing the contacting of potential members or an appointed team. This plan should include: contact current members, out reach to former members, recruiting events for new members. Before the membership year begins, make up a calendar for when you want these things done. If it is possible in your area plan to have at least four recruiting events during the year.
After getting them to join, encourage members to participate, this is the key to keeping them. Put together a team to stay in contact with new members, this team should be made of friendly and knowledgeable members. Here are some ways to encourage participation; Have a sign up sheet for regular events; Send emails or make phone calls for a special events, public recognition of current volunteers (make a poster at your VFW Post Home, if permitted, that spotlights members involement), Be specific about what they will be doing, including their time commitments; Find out how that person wants to participate, either by making calls, emails, texting or Facebook; Always have a member present to help new member with the activity or event; if they say they don't want to participate, please contact the for the next event or activity to see if they changed their minds. Also remember the Ladies that have children still at home will want to do things that the children can be involved in. If her children or spouse can't come she will be less likely to want to participate. Plan to have at least one family friendly event every month.
  • RECRUITING TIP:  Let potential member know It is an honor to have a Veteran in your family who make you eligible for the Ladies Auxiliary VFW.
